Statement from State Sen. Linda Rogers on the conclusion of the 2026 legislative session

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Sen. Linda Rogers (R-Granger) made the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2026 legislative session:

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 27, 2026) – "I am pleased with the work we completed this session, especially when it comes to addressing pensions and tax issues.

"As chair of the Senate Committee on Pensions and Labor, I am always looking for ways to improve pensions processes and mitigate any issues. This session, I authored legislation that would simplify the administration of state regulated pensions and provide flexibility to employees by allowing them to revisit a retirement plan selection and make a change if needed. Additionally, the bill would increase the death benefit paid to the family of a fallen police officer or firefighter.

"Taxes continue to be an issue for Hoosiers across the state, and the General Assembly has been working hard to find ways to reduce taxes. To address this, I authored a bill that would further address property tax issues by extending the county option circuit breaker credit through 2028 and require permission from the property owner before an assessor can enter the property to conduct an inspection.

"I also authored legislation that would provide state-level tax cuts that match three of the most important new federal tax cuts: no tax on tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on loan interest for American-made vehicles. These cuts are expected to save Hoosiers up to $237 million on their state and local taxes this year.

"I look forward to continuing over the interim to find efficiencies and make life more affordable for Hoosiers."
