State Sen. Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) made the following statement today regarding the passage of Senate Enrolled Act 474:
STATE HOUSE (May 3, 2019) — “I am pleased Gov. Holcomb recently signed Senate Enrolled Act 474 into law. This piece of legislation, which I authored, increases the penalties for animal abuse and keeps offenders from owning, harboring or training pets in the future.
“No form of violence or neglect should be tolerated in our state, including acts against innocent animals. The acts of animal abusers should not be taken lightly, and I believe this piece of legislation has the necessary provisions to hold these offenders accountable and prevent further abuse.”
