Statement from State Sen. Jean Leising

State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) made the following statement today in response to
Gov. Eric Holcomb’s 2024 State of the State address:

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 9, 2024) – "I was pleased to hear several of the governor's 2024 legislative priorities focus on K-12 and higher education this year.

"This session, I am authoring a bill that would require each institution to review their bachelor's degree programs to determine whether they could be completed in three years by a full-time student. This would better support workforce development in the state and offer greater flexibility to our students.

"I also anticipate considering legislation that would continue to address early literacy and strengthen retention efforts for students who did not pass the IREAD in third grade. Our youth need the fundamental tools to succeed if they are going to be future leaders, which is why they must know how to read.

"I look forward to working with fellow lawmakers this session to pass this and other legislation impacting our communities and state in the next couple of months."
