FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) made the following statement today in response to Gov. Mike Braun's 2026 State of the State address:
STATEHOUSE (Jan. 14, 2026) – "It's great to see Gov. Braun highlighting the importance of our government running efficiently and effectively.
"I am also glad to have Gov. Braun's support of Senate Bill 1, which I co-authored. Our state has worked hard in recent years to ensure our government is operating at its best, and SB 1 would continue that effort by eliminating waste and fraud in our welfare programs and prevent illegal immigrants from claiming benefits, ensuring that only those who truly need welfare are receiving it.
"I proudly support with Gov. Braun, our police and national guard members for all the hard work they do protecting and serving our communities.
"I look forward to working with Gov. Braun throughout the 2026 legislative session as we continue to find ways to make sure our government is working for Hoosiers."
