Statement from State Sen. Ed Charbonneau

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) made the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2026 legislative session:

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 27, 2026) – "The General Assembly officially concluded the 2026 legislative session today, and I am pleased with all that was accomplished this year.

"We listened to Hoosiers struggling to pay their utility bills and passed the biggest ratemaking shift in more than 100 years that will create a performance-based ratemaking framework that connects utilities’ yearly revenue and profit to their ability to successfully meet the needs of residential consumers. With these measures in place, Hoosiers will see affordable and predictable monthly bills and service reliability.

"I also helped author a bill that is being used as the framework to establish the northwest Indiana stadium authority, possibly bringing the Bears to northwest Indiana. The Bears would be a great addition to our community, and I am excited to see this plan continue to develop.

"I look forward to spending time this interim in our community to hear directly from my constituents and working with my fellow lawmakers to continue finding ways to make Indiana a better place for Hoosiers to live, work and play."
