Statement from State Sen. Ed Charbonneau

State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) made the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2024 legislative session:

STATEHOUSE (March 8, 2024) – "The General Assembly officially wrapped up the 2024 legislative session today, and I am very proud of everything we accomplished this year. I'm particularly pleased with the passage of the Senate Republican caucus' priority bills, including Senate Enrolled Act 2, which I authored.

"SEA 2 would increase the number of child care providers in Indiana by eliminating red tape. For many who want to enter the workforce, the lack of child care access is a huge hurdle. This bill would help increase child care access and affordability to help more Hoosiers who want to enter the workforce do so while making sure their families are taken care of at the same time.

"I also worked on Senate Enrolled Act 273, which would ensure certain health plans cover the use of biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of a disease or condition. By allowing health care providers to take advantage of these tools and use them to identify concerning issues more quickly and accurately, Hoosiers will be able to figure out the proper treatment plan, ultimately helping expedite the health care process.

"Another bill I worked on this session was Senate Bill 139, which would have established a fund to aid Indiana research institutions in studying the potential use of psilocybin in treating mental health and other medical conditions, especially in veterans and first responders. While SB 139 did not make it through the legislative process, the language was added to House Enrolled Act 1259, which would also expand the number of people eligible to provide health care services.

"I am grateful to my fellow colleagues for their collaboration on these and many other bills, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to find other ways to help improve Hoosiers' quality of life."
