Senate President Pro Tem-Elect Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) made the following statement today following a town hall organized by State Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Mishawaka):
WARSAW, Ind. (Sept. 29, 2026) — “Affordability is the number one issue I hear about from Hoosiers across Indiana, and property taxes are an important part of that conversation. I commend Senator Mishler for putting forward a significant idea, challenging the status quo and taking that discussion directly to the people we serve.
"Affordability will remain a central priority for Senate Republicans, and we are committed to pursuing meaningful reforms that allow hardworking Hoosiers to keep more of what they earn.
"We should never be afraid to challenge longstanding assumptions, ask difficult questions or consider bold ideas when Hoosier taxpayers are telling us the current system is not working for them.”
