Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) made the following statement today regarding the Healthy Indiana Plan’s approval and extension from the federal government:
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 2, 2018) ― “A heartfelt congratulations and thank you to Gov. Holcomb and his team on obtaining an extension for our Healthy Indiana Plan from the federal government. HIP has been a great success, providing health care for 400,000 low-income Hoosiers, and I’m pleased that this consumer-driven program will continue to operate here in Indiana.
“In addition, I want to applaud the new initiative to provide $80 million in annual funding to expand access to addiction treatment options for both HIP and Medicaid members and the expansion of the Gateway to Work initiative, which will help connect HIP members to employment opportunities.
“Since its creation 10 years ago, HIP has continued to evolve to meet the needs of Hoosiers in our state, and I am confident that with this extension, we can continue to enhance the health outcomes of the program participants and provide health care for Hoosiers who need it most.”
