Here in the United States, transparency is vital to ensuring we maintain our democracy with free and fair elections.
That's why this year I authored two bills aimed at increasing transparency and maintaining integrity in our elections.
Senate Bill 112 would address situations when a candidate for office moves and must drop out of a race. Under the bill, if a candidate drops out of an election and the address on their withdrawal form is different from their voter registration, their registration would automatically be updated to match the address on their withdrawal form.
This bill would help ensure more Hoosiers are voting where they live and would remove a step a former candidate needs to take if they move.
Senate Bill 113 would increase the amount of time election materials are preserved in county election offices from the current requirement of 22 months after an election to five years.
This would mean that election materials are maintained over two election cycles. It would also allow for the material to be available if it's needed as evidence in the event an individual is charged with election fraud.
Both of these bills have been assigned to the Senate Committee on Elections, which I serve on.
As always, constituents can reach out to me with any questions or concerns by email at s48@iga.in.gov or by phone at 1-800-382-9467.
