By State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper)
It's the time of year when folks around the country reflect on everything that happened in one year while looking toward the future.
For me, 2025 was an eventful year as I worked through my first legislative session as your State Senator. During my first session, I worked on a resolution that recognized the threat our federal debt has on national security, and it has become model policy for other states to use with the goal of spotlighting the crisis that our national debt has become for us and future generations.
The 2026 legislative session began earlier this month, and the General Assembly will resume our work on Jan. 5. I have already filed bills as we prepare to reconvene, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on meaningful legislation that will make Indiana an even better place to live, work and raise a family.
As we prepare for what's ahead in 2026, I ask you to remember that we are all neighbors who want to see what's best for our communities.
We are all Hoosiers and Americans. Even if we don't always see eye to eye on important topics, we can accomplish great things when we work toward our common goals.
This year, I look forward to hearing from you, and I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.
