State Sen. Chris Garten to Lead Key Study Committees on Government Reform, Health Care Costs

STATEHOUSE (July 10, 2025) — State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) has been appointed to chair both the Government Reform Task Force and the Health Care Cost Oversight Task Force, playing a leading role in shaping Indiana’s legislative priorities ahead of the 2026 session.

In addition to these leadership roles, Garten will serve on several influential committees, including:

"In recent years, I have been working to find ways to make our state and local governments work more efficiently and effectively for Hoosier taxpayers," Garten said. "Interim study committees allow lawmakers to have in-depth looks at issues impacting our communities, and I look forward to finding new ways to make our governments operate better ahead of the 2026 legislative session."

Lawmakers will convene throughout the summer and fall to examine a range of policy issues assigned by the bipartisan Legislative Council, which consists of 16 voting members – eight from the Senate, including Garten, and eight from the House of Representatives. A full list of study topics approved by the Legislative Council can be found here.

Committee meeting agendas, hearing schedules, and live streams are available at iga.in.gov.
