State Sen. Aaron Freeman to chair Code Revision Committee, corrections and criminal code study committee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEHOUSE (July 9, 2025) — State Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis) will serve as chair of the Code Revision Committee and the Interim Study Committee on Corrections and Criminal Code in preparation for the 2026 legislative session.

Freeman will also serve as the Senate Co-Chair for the Bail and Release Review Commission as well as a member of the Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council.

"As chair, I'm focused on taking a hard look at criminal behavior, sentencing and incarceration trends to ensure our criminal justice system holds offenders accountable and keeps our communities safe," Freeman said. "That includes reviewing local corrections programs, probation services and how resources are rewarded [ER1.1]to support effective outcomes. We need to make sure every part of our system is working to reduce crime and deliver positive results."

Legislators will meet over the summer and fall months to discuss topics approved by the bipartisan Legislative Council, which is comprised of 16 voting members – eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.
