Statement from State Sen. Aaron Freeman

State Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis) made the following statement today regarding House Bill 1002:

STATEHOUSE (March 5, 2024) – "The events that occurred on Oct. 7 were abhorrent. I condemn the heinous activities that have occurred and continue to occur. House Bill 1002 sends a clear message - antisemitism has no place in Indiana.

"When I was younger, I came to Indiana to get a higher education and a Jewish family took me in and supported me as if I was their own. It is because of them that I feel so strongly on this issue and was honored when Rep. Jeter approached me and asked me to sponsor this bill.

"Students should be able to attend school and perform to their fullest potential without fear of discrimination and harassment, which is why I am proud to be sponsoring legislation to fight antisemitism in Indiana.

"The passing of House Bill 1002 out of the Senate is a step in the right direction to eliminate discrimination in our schools and institutions of higher education."
