Sen. Messmer welcomes local student to Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (March 8, 2023) – State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) welcomed Ferdinand resident and Forest Park Junior High School student Miranda Rickelman to the Statehouse where she served as a Senate page in February.

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with their state senator.

"Every session, I look forward to meeting young Hoosiers who travel to the Statehouse," Messmer said. "The Senate Page Program in an innovative way to teach students about the legislative process and our state government in an immersive experience outside of the classroom, and I am glad Miranda made the long trip to do so."

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.
