Sen. Merritt: Walgreens Expands Safe Medication Disposal Kiosks Throughout Indiana

STATE HOUSE (July 23, 2018) — Today, State Sen. Jim Merritt (R-Indianapolis) joined Executive Director for Drug Prevention, Treatment and Enforcement Jim McClelland, State Rep. Cindy Kirchhofer (R-Beech Grove) and Walgreens Regional Healthcare Director Alexandra Broadus at the Walgreens store at 16th and Meridian Streets, where Walgreens announced its expansion of safe medication disposal kiosks throughout Indiana.

“I am excited we have another tool to help our communities overcome this horrible drug epidemic,” Merritt said. “This expansion will allow Hoosiers to safely and conveniently dispose of unwanted prescriptions, including controlled substances and over-the-counter medications, year-round at absolutely no cost to them. Removing unused prescription medications from the home will reduce the chance of these drugs getting into the wrong hands.”

Last fall, Walgreens announced its partnership with leading health care organizations AmerisourceBergen, Pfizer and Prime Therapeutics to expand the availability of safe medication disposal kiosks to approximately 1,500 Walgreens stores nationwide. The kiosks are now available in 31 select Walgreens drugstores across Indiana.

To find a medication disposal site, visit www.Walgreens.com/StoreLocator. Once a store is selected, the medication disposal information will be listed under the “Pharmacy Services” tab, if the location has a kiosk available.
