STATEHOUSE (Sept. 25, 2024) – State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) is being honored by Lakeshore Public Media with a Champion of Early Childhood Development award for his efforts to improve child care in Indiana.
The Champion of Early Childhood Development award is awarded to those who have significantly impacted early childhood education and development in the region. Charbonneau is being recognized with this award for his work on Senate Enrolled Act 2, which rolled out multiple new policies to help more people become child care workers and cut certain regulations that drive up the cost of operating a child care facility.
"I am extremely grateful for the support Lakeshore Public Media has shown during and after the legislative process as we worked on this new law," Charbonneau said. "Senate Enrolled Act 2 helps create more reliable and affordable child care options for all Hoosiers, and I look forward to seeing the impact it will have across the state."
The award ceremony took place during the Building Blocks Breakfast: Fueling the Future in Merrillville, which marked the official launch of Lakeshore Public Media's Building Blocks initiative, a multimedia project which will explore the science behind early childhood development and address the challenges families face in Northwest Indiana.
