Sen. Byrne welcomes local students to the Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 16, 2024) – State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) welcomed the following local students to the Statehouse who served as Senate pages in January.

• Aynslie Cockerill, from Salem, attends Charleston High School
• Boaz Rances, from Scottsburg, is a homeschooled student
• Daniel Rances, from Scottsburg, is a homeschooled student
• Addison Roop, from Campbellsburg, attends West Washington High School
• Grace Wallace, from Campbellsburg, is a homeschooled student
• Issac Wallace, from Campbellsburg, is a homeschooled student
• Jesse Wallace, from Campbellsburg, is a homeschooled student

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with their state senator.

"The Page Program is a great way for students to get involved in their state government and learn about the legislative process," said Byrne. "I enjoy seeing pages take an interest in state government and giving them the opportunity to ask questions about our state legislature."

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.
