STATEHOUSE (Feb. 10, 2026) — A bill authored by State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper) that would automatically update voter registration for candidates who withdraw from elections if the address on their withdrawal form is different from their registration passed the House today by a vote of 72-24 with bipartisan support.
Senate Enrolled Act 112 would help to ensure Hoosiers are voting where they live and remove a step a former candidate needs to take if they move.
"There are a number of reasons a candidate for election withdraws from a race, including when they move and are no longer eligible to run for a specific seat," Schmitt said. "Senate Enrolled Act 112 makes the process of changing the former candidate's voter registration easier and helps ensure Hoosiers are voting where they live."
SEA 112 now heads to the governor's desk for further consideration.
Schmitt also encourages constituents to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Schmitt can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Schmitt or by phone at 800-382-9467.
