Saving Hoosiers Money

Saving Hoosiers Money

Friday, January 23, 2026

Cutting taxes and keeping money in hard-working Hoosiers' pockets has been a Senate Republican priority for years. In fact, over the past 10 years, Senate Republicans have cut taxes more than 20 times.

This legislative session, Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) has authored a bill to further cut taxes for working Hoosiers. Senate Bill 243 would couple Indiana's tax code to federal tax code with regard to no tax on tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on loan interest for American-made vehicles passed in the One Big Beautiful Bill. This ensures Hoosiers eligible for those federal tax cuts will also benefit from the same tax cuts at the state level in tax year 2026.

These cuts come on the heels of Senate Enrolled Act 1, which passed during the 2025 legislative session. This bill is expected to provide historic property tax relief, saving Hoosiers $1.3 billion over the next three years. In recent years, Senate Republicans have also supported many other initiatives to provide tax relief for Hoosiers that help keep Indiana as the most taxpayer friendly state in the Midwest.
