Rogers' bill to increase teacher compensation signed into law

STATEHOUSE (May 7, 2025) — A bill authored by State Sen. Linda Rogers (R-Granger) that increases the minimum salary for teachers and helps hire educators in high-need areas was signed into law by the governor yesterday.

Senate Enrolled Act 146 requires schools to pay a minimum salary of $45,000 to their teachers, an increase from the $40,000 minimum salary previously in place. It also requires schools to spend at least 65% of their state tuition support on teacher pay.

Local school districts will still determine teacher salaries, but this law increases the minimum pay to ensure teachers are receiving the compensation they deserve.

"It is great to see teachers receiving more compensation for the hard work they do for our children," Rogers said. "Not only that, but this legislation will also ensure that our students are receiving the best education possible and that our schools remain well-staffed."

The bill creates the Indiana Teacher Recruitment Program to provide grants for training and recruitment programs for teachers in high-need areas like STEM education. Finally, it creates a study to determine the feasibility of increasing school health plan options.

Rogers encourages residents of Senate District 11 to contact her with any questions or comments they may have. Rogers can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Rogers or by phone at 800-382-9467.
