Reporting Medicare scam calls

By State Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond)

I have collected many reports from constituents who have received calls from individuals falsely claiming to be with Medicare.

Residents have described calls to have caller IDs within their area code and the callers to be very persistent with constituents' Medicare services threatened if they do not comply with requests.

I would like to remind Hoosiers that Medicare will only call if you left a message with a customer service representative, or if a representative said someone from the agency would call you back.

If you receive an unsolicited call, do not provide the caller with any information or accept any offers.

I understand receiving calls regarding personal medical services can be alarming, which is why I highly advise residents to practice caution and reach out for assistance. Too many Hoosiers are affected by scam calls and it is important to stay vigilant.

If you need reassurance regarding the status of your Medicare service after receiving a scam call, call 1-800 MEDICARE (633-42273).

Additionally, the Office of the Attorney General advises all scam calls to be reported online at in.gov/AttorneyGeneral under "File a Complaint or Report." If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the Attorney General's office at in.gov/AttorneyGeneral/contact-us.

If you have any questions or concerns on these or other topics, feel free to contact me at Senator.Raatz@iga.in.gov or 317-233-0930.
