The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is now accepting applications for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship.
This scholarship, which I voted to create in 2016, gives aspiring teachers the chance to earn up to $40,000 in financial aid in exchange for teaching at an Indiana school for five years after college graduation. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students.
In 2023, I supported a law to increase the amount of money the CHE can award a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship from $7,500 each year to $10,000.
I also sponsored House Enrolled Act 1042 in 2024, which allows any additional funds left in the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship fund to be used for the Transition to Teaching Scholarship.
As our state continues to face a teacher shortage, it is important we give our future educators as many resources as possible. This program helps give aspiring teachers the opportunity to accomplish their goal with more financial support.
This year, the Next Generation Hoosier Educators scholarship had 1,091 applicants, 15% more than last year.
The scholarship requires an applicant to be ranked in the top 20% of their high school graduating class, have a top 20% SAT or ACT score or a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Applications for this year’s scholarship close on Jan. 31, 2026. Applicants will be notified of their scholarship status via email in April of 2026.
I encourage eligible students with an interest in teaching to apply and to help educate and mentor our leaders of tomorrow.
Constituents can reach out to me with any questions or concerns they may have by filling out a "Contact Me" form on the IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Raatz website or by calling my office at 800-382-9467.
