Indiana's history and economy is built on agriculture. From the first settlers in the area to Indiana as we know it today, we have always been a farming state.
About 94% of Hoosier farms are family-owned or operated, and the agriculture industry contributes more than $35 billion to Indiana's economy. We are also the seventh-largest agricultural exporter in the nation.
These farming families are the backbone of our economy and keep our communities strong. That is why I strive to support Indiana farmers in any way I can.
This year, I supported several laws to help farmers, like House Enrolled Act 1210, which provides tax relief for farmers. I also supported House Enrolled Act 1424, which cuts red tape to allow small farms to more easily sell their goods and ensure these businesses can flourish.
I also supported a law to help address the veterinary shortage in Indiana. Senate Enrolled Act 56 helps address the shortage by giving out-of-state veterinarians and veterinary technicians the opportunity to care for animals in Indiana.
As we look ahead to next session, I will continue working with constituents and my fellow legislators to ensure Hoosier farmers have what they need to preserve our state's farming heritage and provide for their families and communities.
As always, I encourage constituents to reach out to me with any questions or concerns by filling out a "Contact Me" form on the IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Raatz website or by calling my office at 800-382-9467.
