Prioritizing Mental Health for Hoosiers

Prioritizing Mental Health for Hoosiers

Monday, May 18, 2026

May is Mental Health Awareness month, a time to raise awareness, reduce the stigma and promote mental wellness. Recognizing that one in five U.S. adults are impacted by mental health issues each year, in 2023, Senate Republicans passed a law to expand access to mental healthcare for Hoosiers and increase the number of certified community behavioral clinics in Indiana to meet the needs of more people.

This year, the General Assembly passed a new law that strengthens Indiana's mental health infrastructure by increasing accountability in mental health recovery centers to prioritize ethical standards and patient results so we can ensure those who need help are getting quality support.

Mental Health America's theme this year is "More Good Days, Together." This theme encourages everyone to reflect on what a "good" day looks like for themselves and their community, to connect people with the right support and increase advocacy of mental health.

Senate Republicans are committed to ensuring every Hoosier has access to the support and care they need.
