Press Secretary Internship with the Indiana Senate Republicans

Press Secretary Internship with the Indiana Senate Republicans

Friday, October 17, 2025

Young professionals who have an interest in a communications career are encouraged to apply for a press secretary internship with the Indiana Senate Republican Caucus. This internship is ideal for those who are passionate about writing, communications and media relations.

Press secretary interns work directly with a full-time press secretary, helping to shape how senators communicate with the public and the media. Each day can look different in this role – one moment may have press secretary interns writing a press release about a bill that is successfully moving through the legislative process, and the next, crafting a social media post highlighting a state grant program or local community project.

During the internship, press secretary interns will learn how to:

  • Track legislation and media coverage to stay on top of relevant issues across the state and in different communities;
  • Write and edit press releases, op-eds and newsletters that are used to keep constituents and the media informed about what's going on at the Statehouse;
  • Develop communication strategies that help keep senators connected with their community members; and
  • Work directly with journalists and media outlets to ensure Hoosiers have accurate, timely information about issues being debated at the Statehouse and concerns that matter most in their communities.

The press secretary internship provides young professionals an opportunity to sharpen their writing, editing and communication skills all while making a meaningful contribution to the policymaking process.

Applications are open now for an internship with the Indiana Senate Republican Causes during the 2026 legislative session. To apply for the press secretary internship or other positions and to learn more, click here.
