The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus is now seeking interns for the 2026 legislative session. This full-time paid internship offers interns a unique opportunity to see how our state government works, the policymaking process and the day-to-day operations of the Indiana General Assembly.
Interns gain valuable, firsthand experience by working directly with senators and other professional staff in the Senate, which allows interns to build a stronger resume, expand their professional network and help lawmakers address different issues that are important to Hoosiers across the state.
Who is Eligible?
Senate Republican internships are open to undergraduate sophomores, juniors and seniors. Recent college graduates, graduate and law school students are also encouraged to apply. All majors are accepted as internship placements span across a variety of interests and skills.
Program Benefits
- Interns earn a $900 biweekly stipend.
- Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.
- Interns may apply for academic scholarships through the Verizon Communications and Senator David Ford Scholarship Funds.
- Interns have the opportunity for networking in a professional environment.
Available Positions
- Communications: The communications internship pairs interns with a full-time press secretary to work with senators and local media outlets to communicate via press releases and op-eds. These interns also help create e-communication and social media strategies.
- Information Technology (IT): The IT internship is for those interested in technology and cybersecurity. IT interns work with senators and staff to address technology needs and troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
- Legal: Legal interns are responsible for conducting legal and policy research. Interns help draft and file Senate motions as well as summarize amendments and conference committee reports.
- Legislative: The legislative internship pairs interns with a full-time legislative assistant who serves under one or two state senators to track and analyze bills throughout the legislative process, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and conduct legislative and policy research.
- Page Office: Interns in the page office will work with students, teaching them Indiana history, fun facts and the workings of the legislative process. Page program interns assist in the daily operations of the Indiana Senate Page Program like facilitating students' experience in the Senate Chamber during session.
- Policy: The policy internship is an extension of the Senate Republican policy team. Policy interns will track legislative proposals, review communication for policy accuracy and help write memos on legislation.
Senate internships are full-time, in-person positions at the Statehouse in Indianapolis that typically start with a mandatory orientation in late December or early January and conclude at the end of the 2026 legislative session.
