The Indiana Department of Health recently awarded nearly $10 million to expand statewide infant and maternal assistance through Indiana's Nurse-Family Partnership program.

The funding, which was appropriated through Senate Enrolled Act 2 (ss), will be used to increase aid to families across Indiana.

The following organizations received grants:

Indiana's Nurse-Family Partnership program helps support young, first-time expectant mothers early in their pregnancies and through the child's second birthday. Participants are partnered with a specially educated nurse to address health and socioeconomic factors that can negatively affect maternal and infant health outcomes.

To better support Hoosier mothers, SEA 2 (ss) allocated $42 million to programs including the Nurse-Family Partnership, Child Care Development Fund, Safety PIN program, Safe Haven baby boxes and Real Alternatives. An additional $45 million was appropriated to the newly created Hoosier Families First Fund, which gives the state flexibility to add funds to programs assuring healthy pregnancies and families.
