Local students gain experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 23, 2024) – Morgan Conrad and Mia Mencias are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2024 legislative session, said State Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Mishawaka).

Conrad, a resident of New Paris, is the daughter of Paul and Cassie Conrad. Conrad graduated from Northwood High School and is a 2023 graduate of Valparaiso University with a degree in political science.

Mencias, a resident of South Bend, is the daughter of AJ Mencias and Elizabeth Stamm. Mencias graduated from Mishawaka Marian High School and is currently a junior at Purdue University studying law and society, political science and forensic science.

"Interns assist us with a number of tasks here at the Senate," Mishler said. "This internship is a great opportunity to gain professional experience, and I'm always happy to see interns from our local community taking advantage of that opportunity."

As legislative interns, Conrad and Mencias track and analyze bill data, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conduct legislative policy research.

"I am very excited and eager to have the opportunity to learn from Senator Bray and Senator Garten, who work diligently to serve Hoosiers everyday," Mencias said.

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
