Local students gain experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 15, 2024) – Elijah Dunham and Nicholas Wood are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2024 legislative session, said State Sen. Kyle Walker (R-Lawrence).

Elijah Dunham, a resident of Fortville, is the son of Monica and Dave Dunham. Dunham graduated from Mount Vernon High School and Belmont Abbey College with a degree in finance.

Nicholas Wood, a resident of Fishers, is the son of Lisa and David Wood. Wood graduated from Fishers High School and is a junior at Indiana University studying environmental science.

"Our interns are an essential part of making sure everything runs smoothly during session," said Walker. "It's really great to see local passionate students bringing their energy to engage and learn about public service."

As legislative interns, Dunham and Wood track and analyze bill data, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conduct legislative policy research.

"It has been an honor to work alongside my respective legislative assistant and senators in serving Hoosiers while gaining real world experience," Dunham said. "I look forward to the duration of my internship at the Senate."

"My time as an intern here has been nothing short of rewarding," Wood said. "I cannot wait to see what the rest of the 2024 legislation session holds."

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
