Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy graduate gains experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 16, 2024) – Tomiya Hamer is serving as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2024 legislative session, said State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland).

Hamer, a resident of Gary, is the daughter of Tonita Hamer. Hamer graduated from Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy and is currently a senior at Ball State University studying public relations and global affairs.

"I am grateful for all the interns who work hard every day to serve Hoosiers," Dernulc said. "These interns have the unique opportunity to work closely with us legislators and gain a better understanding of how state government works, preparing them for any public service they may do in the future."

As a communications intern, Hamer tracks legislation and media coverage, writes news releases and op-eds, creates e-communication and social media strategies, and works with members of media.

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
