FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (Aug. 26, 2026) – The federal government has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Indiana, which allows federal funds to be used to help communities recover from flooding that impacted Senate District 42, said State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg). Assistance must be requested within 30 days, by Sept. 23.
In Senate District 42, Decatur, Fayette, Franklin and Rush counties are all eligible to receive individual assistance from FEMA, which provides resources for individuals and households impacted by flooding. Franklin County is also eligible to receive public assistance, which helps assist with emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.
By applying for individual assistance from FEMA, those impacted by the recent floods will be eligible for emergency assistance, unemployment assistance, legal services and other important recovery services. To apply for federal assistance, call 1-800-621-3362, or visit www.disasterassistance.gov.
"As we begin recovering from the recent floods, it is critical that those affected apply for individual FEMA assistance," Leising said. "The resources FEMA offers will help in the recovery efforts and ensure those in our community get the aid they need to move forward after this challenging time. I will continue working with local, state and federal leaders to ensure our community is taken care of."
