Leising: Communities in Senate District 42 receive more than $13 million in road-funding grants

STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2024) — Communities in Senate District 42 will receive more than $13 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded nearly $1.7 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 42, the following communities received grants:

• Connersville received $374,680.01;
• Fayette County received $1,424,662.49;
• Rush County received $485,022.75;
• Rushville received $300,000;
• Shelby County received $999,232.50;
• Batesville received $1,274,873.23;
• Decatur County received $1,499,988.18;
• Franklin County received $1,118,688.75;
• Greensburg received $1,467,767.50;
• Jennings County received $1,362,844.57;
• North Vernon received $970,405.50;
• Ripley County received $847,875;
• Versailles received $362,065.24; and
• Westport received $592,960.50.

"People depend on properly maintained roads for their livelihood, especially in the more rural areas that I represent," Leising said. "The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program will help ensure our roads remain strong for years to come, and I'm pleased to see so many communities taking advantage of it."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in July of 2024.
