Kruse Co-authors Bill for Computer Science Curriculum

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 8, 2018) – State Sen. Dennis Kruse (R-Auburn) announced he has co-authored a bill that would require public and charter schools to offer a computer science course as a one-semester elective at least once each school year to high school students.

“Computer science is essential to a student’s education in our ever-changing world,” Kruse said. “Offering this course will prepare high school students for their future, no matter which field of work they choose to pursue.”

Senate Bill 172 is outlined in Gov. Holcomb’s Next Level Agenda by establishing the Next Level Computer Science Grant Program and the Next Level Computer Science Fund to award grants in order to implement teacher professional development programs for training in teaching computer science.

SB 172 has been assigned to the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development.
