Sen. Koch welcomes local student to Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (March 21, 2022) – State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) welcomed Matthew Nasir, from Ellettsville, to the Statehouse who served as Senate page in February.

Nasir is a homeschooled student.

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with their state senator.

"Learning about a place and process in the classroom, while valuable, cannot compare to visiting that location in-person and witnessing bills debated first-hand," Koch said. "The Senate Page Program is an interactive opportunity for students to get an up-close look at how state government operates. It was an honor to have joined Matthew in his experience."

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.

Sen. Koch, chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, serves Senate District 44, which includes all or parts of Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Monroe counties. He also serves on the Senate Committees on Commerce and Technology, Judiciary, Corrections and Criminal Law, Elections, and Family and Children Services. Koch can be reached via email at Senator.Koch@iga.in.gov or by phone at 800-382-9467.
