STATEHOUSE (July 23, 2025) — A bill authored by State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) that encourages utility companies to use advanced electric transmission technology was ceremonially signed into law by the governor.
Senate Enrolled Act 422 makes advanced transmission technology eligible for the same cost recovery that utilities already have for traditional transmission equipment. The bill also encourages utilities to consider advanced transmission technologies as part of their long-term plans submitted to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
"Upgrading existing transmission lines using new technology costs less and is faster than building new lines " Koch said. "This will reduce congestion and help reduce electric bills for ratepayers."
Koch is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, ranking member of the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology and Judiciary, and a member of the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He represents Senate District 44, which includes Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Orange counties, and a portion of Monroe County.
