Koch & Hall: Funds to repair Horsemen's Camp approved by Budget Committee

STATEHOUSE (June 18, 2025) — The State Budget Committee today approved funding that will allow for repairs to be made to Horsemen's Camp in Brown County State Park said State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) and State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman).

Horsemen's Camp sustained devastating damage after a tornado hit the area on May 16. Before the tornado, the area allowed people to bring horses to the park to ride the trails, provided tie-ups for the horses and other amenities. In collaboration with Koch and Hall, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources requested $925,542 of unused funds from the Repair and Rehabilitation Funds to be reallocated to repair the area.

"Horsemen's Camp is a very important part of Brown County State Park and the equine industry, contributing over $320,000 in annual revenue and bringing in out-of-state visitors," Koch said. "I'm glad the State Budget Committee approved this proposal so we can restore the area and get people back out there enjoying the trails with their horses."

The State Budget Committee approved this fund transfer following a letter authored by Koch and Hall requesting the assistance for Horsemen's Camp.

"This funding is a big win for our community and for everyone who enjoys the outdoors," Hall said. "Horsemen's Camp is a unique part of Brown County, and getting it repaired quickly means welcoming back folks who love to ride and camp here. I'm grateful to the State Budget Committee for helping make this possible."

Koch is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, ranking member of the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology and Judiciary, and a member of the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He represents Senate District 44, which includes Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Orange counties, and portions of Monroe County.

Hall is the vice chairman of the House Committee on Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications, a member of the House Committee on Local Government and a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources. He represents House District 62, which includes all of Brown County, and portions of Monroe and Jackson counties.
