Kicking off the 2023 legislative session

Tuesday, Nov. 22, lawmakers will meet at the Statehouse for Organization Day – the ceremonial start of the 123rd Indiana General Assembly.

Organization Day includes the swearing-in of new and returning members of the General Assembly. The day also marks the annual first roll call of all state lawmakers and gives each Senate and House of Representatives caucus the opportunity to organize in preparation for the 2023 legislative session.

This year, Senate Republicans are welcoming four new senators to the caucus:

• State Sen.-elect Scott Alexander (R-Eaton) will be sworn in as the state senator for Senate District 26;
• State Sen.-elect Spencer Deery (R-West Lafayette) will be sworn in as the state senator for Senate District 23;
• State Sen.-elect Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) will be sworn in as the state senator for Senate District 1; and
• State Sen.-elect Dr. Tyler Johnson (R-Grabill) will be sworn in as the state senator for Senate District 14.

All lawmakers expect to return to the Statehouse for session on Jan. 9, when they will begin crafting a balanced budget to fund government services for the next two years, as well as consider other legislation to continue to improve our great state.
