Indiana’s results announced for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Friday, May 17, 2019

As our nation faces an opioid abuse epidemic, proper medication disposal is imperative to help ensure prescriptions do not end up in the wrong hands.

To provide Americans a convenient way to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recently hosted the 17th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) along with the Indiana Board of Pharmacy (IBP) sponsored this event at 95 sites across the state, including Indiana State Police Posts.

The DEA recently announced Hoosiers safely disposed of more than 22,757 pounds of unused medications.

Along with taking part in events like National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Hoosiers also have access to disposal locations where they can bring unwanted medication year round at their local unwanted medicine take back collection site.

Some pharmacies also offer postage-paid envelopes that are used to mail in noncontrolled substances for disposal.
