Indiana Ranked Among Top States for Election Integrity

Friday, October 17, 2025

Indiana was recently ranked among the top states in the nation for election integrity. This success reflects the many efforts Senate Republicans have undertaken in recent years to ensure our elections are secure, transparent and fair.

Through continued work at the Statehouse, Senate Republicans have strengthened these efforts with new laws that further protect the integrity of our elections and provide Hoosiers with confidence in the process.

Strengthening Voter ID Laws
In 2025, we passed a law to strengthen Indiana’s voter ID law by prohibiting student IDs issued by state colleges or universities from being recognized as a valid ID to vote, since these IDs often lack expiration dates and consistent security features.

Students at public colleges and universities are eligible to vote using a driver’s license or a free state-issued photo ID obtained through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Protecting the Accuracy of Voter Registration Records
Ensuring that Indiana’s voter registration lists remain accurate is key to protecting election integrity. Senate Republicans have worked to provide election officials with better tools to detect and remove illegally registered voters, keeping the system up to date and secure.

Strengthening Absentee Voting Safeguards
Indiana allows mail-in absentee voting only with good cause, helping prevent the misuse seen in other states. Lawmakers also required ID for ballot requests and banned anonymous mass mailings of applications to keep the process secure and transparent.

Enhancing Audits and Paper Trails
Indiana now requires all electronic voting machines to produce a voter-verifiable paper trail and expanded the Secretary of State’s authority to conduct post-election audits, strengthening transparency and voter confidence.

Through these efforts, Indiana has earned recognition as one of the top states in the country for election integrity. Senate Republicans remain committed to protecting the integrity of every ballot, ensuring that Hoosier elections remain among the most secure, transparent and trusted.
