Huston, Bray call on Indiana's insurers, nonprofit hospitals to join forces to cut health care costs

Note to the press: House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) and Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) released the following statements today after calling on Indiana's insurers and nonprofit hospitals to work together to lower the out-of-control costs of health care. The legislative leaders recently signed a joint letter released to presidents and CEOs of the state's health insurance carriers and nonprofit health care systems whose prices are well-above national averages. STATEHOUSE (Jan. 4, 2022) – "We respect the tremendous work of Indiana's health care providers, especially throughout this unprecedented pandemic. As we look to the future, we also can't ignore that Hoosiers are paying well-above the national average for health care. I've personally heard from countless Hoosiers and employers who are rightfully frustrated and overwhelmed by health care prices. The time is now to bring stakeholders together and craft a plan that would deliver tangible savings to payers. Our goal is to maintain a high-quality of care while bringing costs down. Senator Bray and I are keeping all options on the table and our door is open to continued discussions," said House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers).

"Studies continue to show health care prices in Indiana remain some of the highest in the nation, and it's time for that to change. We understand the health care industry and its pricing structures are complicated, but that's not an excuse to ignore the problem and let prices grow – at a rate significantly higher than inflation – at the expense of hardworking Hoosiers and business owners. It's time for leaders in our medical community to come together and work in tandem to lower costs for Hoosiers, and I stand ready as a lawmaker to assist however I may be able," said Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville).
