Hoosier Homestead Awards Announced

Friday, August 24, 2018

On Friday, Aug. 10, 88 families were recognized by Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch at the Indiana State Fair and presented with a Hoosier Homestead Award for their longstanding commitment to Indiana agriculture.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more and commemorates the contributions these families have made to the economic, cultural and social advancement of Indiana.

Each year, two award ceremonies are held - one in the spring and one in the summer - to recognize the achievements of farm families across the state. Since the program's foundation in 1976, over 5,500 families have received the award.

To be recognized as a Hoosier Homestead, a farm must consist of at least 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 in agricultural products per year.

Indiana family farms may qualify for the following:

  • Centennial Award - 100 years of ownership
  • Sesquicentennial Award - 150 years of ownership
  • Bicentennial Award - 200 years of ownership
