Helping Hoosiers in need

Helping Hoosiers in need

Tuesday, November 21, 2023

With the arrival of the holiday season, Hoosiers across Indiana will be gathering with family and friends in the weeks ahead.

However, many Hoosiers struggle to put food on the table for their families.

To help families in need, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking hunters to consider donating any harvested deer meat to local food banks this deer hunting season.

One deer can provide 200 meals for a Hoosier family in need.

The Indiana Hunt for Hunger program allows hunters to donate the meat to one of more than 50 processing plants across the state.

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and Gov. Eric Holcomb also announced this week that 200,000 pounds of poultry and 172,000 dozen eggs have been donated to Hoosier food banks by the state's poultry producers over the last year.
