FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 24, 2026) — A bill sponsored by State Sen. Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute) that would strengthen Indiana's defense sector unanimously passed the Senate.
House Bill 1268 would add the Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard, or his designee, as a member of the Indiana Defense Task Force.
"As co-chair of the General Assembly's defense caucus, I have seen firsthand how important the defense industry is to Indiana," Goode said. "Not only is Indiana home to Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, the nation's third largest naval base, but we are also the headquarters to several other military units like the 181st Intelligence Wing at Terre Haute Air National Guard Base. These bases not only provide security for Indiana but also an economic fortitude that benefits all Hoosiers."
The bill would also require the task force to make budget recommendations to the Indiana Office of Defense Development and creates more transparency for spending within the office.
Because HB 1268 was amended in the Senate, it must now return to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
Goode encourages residents of Senate District 38 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Goode can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Goode or by phone at 800-382-9467.
