Glick: Bill to protect wetlands heads to governor's desk

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 29, 2024) – A bill authored by State Sen. Sue Glick (R-LaGrange) that would incentivize the preservation and protection of Indiana wetlands passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 93-2 Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Senate Enrolled Act 246 would create certain provisions that would allow a landowner to classify land that contains wetland as wildlands for purposes of lowering property tax assessment while incentivizing preservation.

"Wetlands offer many benefits to the people and wildlife within our communities," Glick said. "Wetlands are a critical resource to Hoosiers to control flooding and erosion and preserve clean water, and without them, the safety of our communities could be threatened. Senate Enrolled Act 246 would further protections in place for our state's wetlands."

SEA 246 will now head to the governor's desk for his signature. To track bills on the governor's desk, click here.
