Garten: Jeffersonville to receive new $800 million solar cell manufacturing facility

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 30, 2023)Canadian Solar plans to build a new $800 million state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic (PV) cell production facility at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, creating approximately 1,200 new jobs, said State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown).

Canadian Solar expects to begin production at this facility by the end of 2025, producing an annual output of 5 gigawatts (GW) – an equivalent of approximately 20,000 high-power solar panels per day – to power solar energy across the U.S. Solar cells produced at this facility will be shipped to the new 5 GW module assembly plant in Texas.

"There is no doubt Indiana continues to be a top economic leader for manufacturing and innovation in the Midwest, and this project is a testament to that," Garten said. "I am pleased our community is welcoming this global manufacturing company and look forward to seeing how this critical investment further stimulates the local and state economy."

Canadian Solar is a leading manufacturer of solar PV modules, provider of solar energy and battery storage solutions, and developer of utility-scale solar power and battery storage projects. Since 2001, the company has successfully delivered premium-quality, solar PV modules to customers around the world.
