Garten: General Assembly kicks off 2023 session

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 22, 2022) — State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) today gathered with fellow legislators at the Statehouse for Organization Day – the ceremonial start of the 123rd Indiana General Assembly.

"I am pleased to be back in the Senate chamber after working diligently during the interim to prepare for the 2023 legislative session," Garten said. "I look forward to serving as Senate Majority Floor Leader and addressing concerns Senate District 45 constituents have expressed and issues the Administrative Rules Task Force has evaluated."

Organization Day includes the swearing in of new and returning members of the General Assembly, including Garten, who take the formal oath of office to begin a new Senate term. This day also gives each Senate and House of Representatives caucus the opportunity to organize in preparation for the 2023 legislative session.

During the first session of each General Assembly, lawmakers craft a comprehensive budget to fund government services for the next two fiscal years. Garten's seat on the Senate Committee on Appropriations provides for his active participation in budget bill deliberations.

"Working with my colleagues to carefully draft our state's budget for the next two years is a top priority this session," Garten said. "I will continue to advocate for fiscal policies that promote economic growth and put Hoosiers first."

As the 2023 session gets underway, Garten encourages residents of Senate District 45 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have by email at Senator.Garten@iga.in.gov or by phone at 800-382-9467.
