FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (Oct. 1, 2026) — This week, State Sen. Blake Doriot (R-Goshen) joined 51 other state legislators in a letter urging Gov. Braun to allow Hoosier farmers to use off road diesel fuel, which is not taxed, in grain trucks for the remainder of the harvest season.
Doriot collaborated with State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie), chair of the House Committee on Roads and Transportation, to call on the governor to address the current excessive price of diesel fuel, which impacts every part of the farm business, and to give the agriculture community the relief needed this harvest season.
“Indiana is seeing a record high price for diesel fuel – nearing $7 a gallon – at a time when fueling farm equipment is crucial,” Doriot said. “The financial strain this is putting on our farming community concerns me given that Indiana is such an agriculturally rich state and heavily relies on our farmers. I appreciate the governor recognizing the impact the diesel tax has on farmers and providing them with temporary relief.”
Braun announced Wednesday he is suspending fuel restrictions for dyed diesel fuel, permitting its use for any farm-related activity, which will relieve farmers from the on-road diesel fuel tax.
