FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 16, 2026) — A bill authored by State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) that would expand alcohol permits in specific areas of Indiana passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support today.
Senate Enrolled Act 89 would issue additional three-way alcohol permits to areas of Indiana including Schererville, Lafayette, West Lafayette, Delphi, Bloomington and within Michigan City's transit development districts – areas around transit or train stations designated to promote transit-oriented development. Allowing more full-service restaurants to move into these areas will help spur economic growth and expand local community assets.
"With limited time left in session, I am happy to see this bill pass the House and go straight to the governor's desk," Dernulc said. "By adding these alcohol permits the areas, including northwest Indiana, should see a positive impact to their local assets. Thank you to my colleagues for supporting this bill and helping these communities expand their three-way alcohol permits."
SEA 89 will now move to the governor's desk for final consideration.
