STATEHOUSE (April 24, 2025) — A bill sponsored by State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) that would help raise awareness of the growing issue of human trafficking passed the Senate and the House of Representatives with bipartisan support today.
House Enrolled Act 1416 would require places like rest areas, gas stations and welcome centers to display human trafficking awareness information to inform the community and those being trafficked of the local resources available to help them.
"This is a great first step to bring more attention to the issue of human trafficking throughout Indiana," Dernulc said. "This ugly human trafficking industry operates in the shadows and the only way to stop it is for more to be informed on the signs and how to help those who are being trafficked. We have a lot of work to do on this issue, but this is moving us in the right direction."
HEA 1416 will now move to the governor's desk for final consideration.
