Dernulc: Bill establishing a pediatric cancer research and treatment grant program goes to governor

STATEHOUSE (April 17, 2025)A bill sponsored by State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) that would establish a pediatric cancer research and treatment grant program passed the House of Representatives unanimously today.

House Enrolled Act 1453 would establish a pediatric cancer research and treatment grant program along with grants for Indiana cancer centers to boost breast cancer research and clinical trials.

"This important piece of legislation brought to light many different aspects of pediatric cancer treatment, including the lack of care that is available for our young Hoosiers," Dernulc said. "These grant programs aim to improve the quality of care for kids who are suffering from cancer and improve cancer treatment and research overall. The road is long for those with cancer, and I hope that these grant programs, in time, will improve the quality of care for Hoosiers throughout Indiana."

HEA 1453 will now move to the governor's desk for final consideration.
